ST. PATRICKS DAY OUT

This is a St. Patrick’s Day bus trip and this time we will venture off for a visit to the Brothers Football Club at Ipswich. Travel time from Brisbane is less than one hour.

For those who love history then you will be interested to know that St. Patrick’s Day has been observed as a religious holiday in Ireland for over 1000 years. Patrick was born in Roman Britain in the late 4th century. He was kidnapped at the age of 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. He escaped and set up a number of monasteries, churches and schools. He is believed to have driven all of the snakes out of Ireland!. In some parts of the world, including Australia, the local beer is dyed green on St Patrick’s Day. Its fascinating how a religious feast day has transformed into a global celebration of Irish heritage and culture.
